Fractional CTO

Fractional CTO for SaaS Companies

A fractional CTO gives a SaaS company senior technical leadership — cloud architecture, DevOps, security and AI strategy — for a flat monthly fee, without the salary or months-long search of a full-time hire. Korvaed provides fractional CTO-level engineering to SaaS teams and technical founders in Canada and the US, from Montréal.

Who it's for

Built for teams without a senior technical leader yet.

Technical founders who need a senior engineering voice in the room, not another hire to manage.
SaaS companies scaling fast enough that cloud costs, security posture, or AI features have outgrown ad hoc decisions.
Teams that need cloud, DevOps, security, and AI expertise together — not three separate vendors.
Companies that want senior judgment on demand, without the six-figure salary and months-long search of a full-time CTO.
What's included

The same three disciplines, applied at the CTO level.

Cloud infrastructure & DevOps leadership

Architecture decisions for AWS, GCP or Azure, Kubernetes, CI/CD, cost governance and incident response — we set the direction, then build and own it.

AI product strategy

Decide what's worth building, then scope and build LLM-powered features that survive contact with production: latency, guardrails, cost controls, observability.

Security and compliance direction

Set the security posture your enterprise prospects will ask about, and lead SOC 2 readiness and compliance automation from the architecture level down.

Investment

One flat monthly fee, not a CTO's salary.

Fractional CTO engagements start at $2,500/month (Build), SaaS companies scaling product and infrastructure at the same time move up to $4,500/month (Scale), and full embedded technical leadership runs $7,500/month (Partner). Every plan includes unlimited requests — compare that to a $13,000–17,000/month all-in cost for a full-time senior DevOps hire.

Cloud cost reduction — and zero critical vulnerabilities remaining

The situation

A B2B SaaS company managing wine inventory and POS systems for restaurants was running on an AWS environment with hundreds of vulnerabilities and dozens of critical security issues. Their Kubernetes setup couldn't scale reliably, and cloud costs had grown far beyond what the infrastructure justified.

What we did

We started with a free infrastructure audit to establish a clear baseline. From there we prioritized by business impact — critical security issues first, then performance and cost. We hardened their AWS environment, properly configured their Kubernetes cluster for production-grade scaling, tightened their CI/CD pipeline, and systematically eliminated every critical and high-severity finding. Once the infrastructure was fully operational and secure, we transitioned to an ongoing advisory retainer.

Outcome

Cloud costs reduced by 37%. Security posture moved from hundreds of vulnerabilities with dozens of critical issues to zero critical findings and only minor warnings. Their Kubernetes cluster now scales reliably for their B2B workload.

Questions

Fractional CTO — frequently asked.

A fractional CTO makes the technical decisions a full-time CTO would — cloud architecture, security posture, AI roadmap, vendor and infrastructure choices — but part-time, for a fixed monthly capacity rather than a full-time seat.
Korvaed's fractional CTO plans run $2,500–$7,500/month, well below the $13,000–17,000/month all-in cost of a full-time senior DevOps hire.
A freelancer works project-by-project and you manage them; an agency typically bills by the hour with mixed seniority. Korvaed is an ongoing partner on a flat monthly fee — proactive, always available, covering cloud, AI, and security together instead of one discipline at a time.
Typically within a week of signing. We start with a focused onboarding to understand your stack, then move into execution immediately.
Both. The Build plan is designed for technical founders and small teams with 1–3 concurrent needs, while Scale and Partner fit SaaS companies scaling their product and infrastructure at the same time.
Yes. A scoped project is a good way to see how we work first, and clients who convert to a retainer within 30 days of project delivery get a $500 credit toward the first month.
